Note: Whilst charging, the internal temperature does go up considerably. Mine is measuring 30 Deg C when the room temperature is about 24 Deg C. 30 min's or so after disconnection should see it revert to ambient temperature.
This is normal.
I have mine set up with a USB cable plugged in at the moment (charging... see the Rechargeable Battery thread), however it's got very low signal strength. It's about 5m away, and going through 1 concrete wall. With an RSSI of only 176, I'm a little …
Ok after a long break with too much other stuff going on to get back to this, I've now re-jigged my idea. It's actually simpler too!
The original IC was too small to solder to, so now I'll be using a MAX 11555EZK+T. It has 2 inputs, DC or USB, I'll…
Gerry, that product is already available, and has been for many many years. We normally call it a computer, with a multi IO board attached. TWINE is a stand alone module, that's not supposed to have great wads of cables coming into it.
Look up Nin…
Robert and frjps... Gerry has hit the nail on the head. The child learning to walk metaphor I used earlier is still very apt. As Robert implied, put it away until they've had time to develop it more if you're finding yourself frustrated at it at the…
Interesting topic guys, but here's another take on it.
Twine "IS" the sensor interface. The idea is you place Twine where you need to sense things. To have Twine connect to yet another wireless device located in another location seems to defeat th…
I'd expect it should get better range than that. However do factor in obstructions, like solid walls, interference such as other WiFi points, computers, microwaves and the like. Sometimes we just get dead spots around the house/work too. Best to do …
frjps... (and others)
Remember that you backed an 'idea and its development', you didn't actually purchase a product. The product you're holding is the current fruit of your investment, pretty much as a thank-you for investing, and it's still very…
Teodoro, it's extremely unlikely that it'll be supported. Because from what I'm aware of, TWINE uses it's own programming language inside. Just go with a standard temp sensor into the breakout board once linear measurements are enabled. 0.5 deg accu…
Darren, I suggest you request a firmware update. See the following thread to find out how...
http://community.supermechanical.com/index.php?p=/discussion/228/how-to-obtain-the-firmware-update#Item_8
They do seem very good at sending updates out when requested. I suspect they're only updating the requested ones at this stage, as it keeps the workload lower with less people asking about the changes and new stuff.
So I urge people to only update…
Bill, I've tested my TWINE at 3v (equivelant to 2 cells) at the USB port, and unfortunately it was unreliable. I'm assuming this is due to it going through the regulator circuit, which has generic losses. If you want to attach external batteries thr…
*** Disclaimer first... I take no responsibility for anyone who damages their TWINE due to reproducing these experiments ***
Ok I've had a play and found my TWINE worked fine at up to 4.4v on the battery terminals, I didn't take it any higher as it…
Go to your usual TWINE access page (the one where you set rules), and hover over the name of your twine. It'll bring up a box with the Firmware version in it. If it's Nov 15th then you have the latest so far.
As for what it covers, that's not accu…
Barry you need to look harder. Throughout these forums are many comments from SuperMechanical staff saying that they are working on all these things. I've had great support so far, including personal email responses. Mine is working fine, and the ex…
SM have said that they will support 3 networks eventually, but there's coding and bug's to fix in the WiFi module to make this happen.
I'm hoping they allow it to use Wireless N, I'm pretty sure the module is capable.
I'm also hoping it can detec…
Patience guys! It takes time to develop a good product, and that's what they're trying to do.
Think of TWINE as a child learning to walk. Fall's are inevitable, but they'll get back up and try again. It doesn't help when people are pushing them ov…
Hard to believe we get so excited over a cardboard box, but I have to admit kudos is deserved for it. It's on par with the box my NEST thermostat came in, and "i" products too. Except this one has no plastic, so it's a little more friendly.
I just ordered some Neodymium magnets that are 12mm round x 1.5mm thick. Super glue a few them to the back of the PCB and it should hold to metal surfaces. Or if that's not strong enough, glue them to the silicone cover, or even embed them into it t…
As Gary said, it's a new product, in its infancy. There are incredible hurdles to go through with something like this. Give them some time to get it right. Have a think about children learning to walk, operating systems in computers constantly getti…
That's a much better solution Bill, I'd suggest 3x batteries in series into the USB port would be fine, that's closer to the voltage it operates from. However from what I can tell it uses a linear circuit inside to reduce the voltage, so there's was…
Already suggested a coloured LED to SM. However I do note that it's not possible for this unit because the hardware doesn't support it. Perhaps a TWINE2 version could do that... and more.
Anyone having weird sleeping style issues (the TWINE, not yourself), should request a firmware upgrade. It sorted mine out. You should be on Nov 15 firmware. To get the upgrade you need to email and ask for it currently.
